Remote Sunday School Remote Sunday School

Northwestern Publishing House is pleased to introduce
a remote learning component to our popular Christ-Light for Sunday Schools!

This new program provides a timely approach to teaching Sunday school as congregations are evaluating the best way to share God’s Word with children. Some of the benefits of the new Christ-Light program include:

  • Provides a solution for churches to maintain a Sunday school ministry during times of restricted gathering opportunities.
  • Adds value to the current curriculum without adding costs.
  • Engages parents in the learning and faith building process with their children.
  • May expand ministry by attracting parents that may not have taken their children to Sunday school in the past.

WHAT IS CHRIST LIGHT REMOTE LEARNING?

The Christ Light Remote Learning program is a complete curriculum that combines teacher led lessons and engages parents in reinforcing the lessons in tangible ways with their children. Here are some specifics:

  • NPH is producing Christ-Light Lesson Videos for grades PreK-K, 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6. The lessons are recorded and taught by experienced WELS teachers and available via YouTube prior to each Sunday. The engaging and age-appropriate video-based lessons are free with no required password for access.
  • Lesson Videos will include a brief introduction for parents along with the lesson’s aim, the truth that is being shared, and a relevant application for the child, followed by the Bible lesson for the week.
  • Printed Christ-Light Sunday School Student Lessons will be used by parents to help facilitate learning with their child.
  • Following the Lesson Video, parents will be encouraged to complete an activity related to the lesson with their child and to reinforce the Memory Treasure.
  • Printed Student Lessons are available for each grade level as noted above. They are shrink-wrapped in packs of 13 lessons for each student. The current cycle is Year 2. Fall is currently underway (see the entire Fall 13-lesson schedule below). Winter begins Sunday, December 13, 2020 (see the entire Winter 13-lesson schedule below). Spring begins Sunday, March 21, 2021 (see the entire Winter 13-lesson schedule below)

HOW CAN MY CHURCH PARTICIPATE?

  1. Getting started is easy. Download free announcement copy here to include in emails to your members, or post on your website or Facebook page to make your members aware of the program.
  2. Next, order printed Student Lesson packs for your students. There are two easy options for doing this:
    • Order the Student Lesson packs and have them shipped to your church (as you do now) for distribution to your parents. To order this option, click here or call 800-662-6022 -OR-
    • Order the Student Lesson packs and NPH will ship them directly to parents. Note: There is no additional shipping charge for this service. To order this option, fill out this form or call 800-662-6022. When filling out the form, please note in the message area a good to time for us to call you back.
  3. Encourage your parents to use the program each week with their children. This can be through a mention during announcements or perhaps a tie in to your message. Download a sample announcement. Also, direct them to nph.net/ss-at-home for helpful information and links to the free Lesson Videos.

HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST?

The costs are the same as a congregation’s Christ Light Sunday school classroom program. The pack of 13 student lessons is priced at $6.25 for PreK&K through grades 3-4 and $6.75 for grades 5-6.

Shipping cost for printed Student Lessons is based on size of order. There is no additional shipping cost for NPH shipping directly to parents.

Access to all Christ Light Lesson Videos is free.

HOW CAN I REINFORCE THE IMPORTANT ROLE PARENTS PLAY?

NPH is making available at no charge, the popular five-lesson Bible study, Share the Promise with your Children: How to Lay the Foundation for a Strong Christian Home. Authored by Richard Gurgel, this Bible study equips and enables parents to share the promise of salvation with their children by first involving them in studying and reading Scripture. Share the Promise with your Children is available as a downloadable PDF. It can be distributed to parents for group online Bible study.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

We will keep you posted with additional information as it is available. Click here to subscribe to update emails from NPH.

What about Sunday school for grades 7, 8? Pre-recorded video lessons prove challenging for these young teens. Their education and spiritual needs are more real-time and interactive than those of younger students. Many congregations choose a small group Bible study format over a traditional classroom setting for grades 7, 8 Sunday school. Even the Christ-Light curriculum is designed topically for grades 7, 8, recognizing that this age group has progressed to more extensive discussion about the application of our faith. To that end, we encourage congregations desiring remote learning for grades 7, 8 to make use of the Christ-Light topical materials via Zoom or other online video conferencing platform, so that discussion—sometimes of sensitive and challenging issues—can occur in real-time with a known and trusted instructor.
