The Signs of Christmas children's service proclaims the Christmas message and God's plan of salvation through the symbols and images we use in our celebration. The service uses narration, music, and recitations of Bible passages. The four parts of the service present four visual signs, or symbols, associated with Christmas: The Tree, The Manger, The Angel, and The Star. The musical selections are familiar, traditional songs: "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful"; "Oh, Come, Oh, Come, Emmanuel"; "Song of Mary"; "Away in a Manger"; "God Loves Me Dearly"; "Angels We Have Heard on High"; "Silent Night! Holy Night"; "Go, Tell It on the Mountain"; and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing."
This service can be easily adapted for use with both large and small groups of children. Alternate hymns are suggested from Christian Worship, CW Supplement, and other Lutheran hymnals.
