In our sinfulness, humankind is bent on letting our thoughts and feelings stand in judgment of both the natural and revealed knowledge of God. Only when fallen reason is silenced can any of us truly be led to believe and rejoice in what appears to us to be the "foolishness" of God. At the same time Luther and Becker both consider God's gift of reason to be one of the greatest treasures we possess, and the reader finds encouragement to use that gift well.
