This familiar hymn text and tune has been skillfully crafted into a concertato for congregation, SATB choir, brass quartet, timpani, and organ. Three stanzas in length, the congregation joins on a unison stanza 1 and choir descant-adorned stanza 3, with stanza 2 dedicated to SATB choir. While performance with brass and timpani are preferred and most rewarding, these parts could be omitted if necessary. A majestic introduction precedes stanza 1 (can be optionally shortened), and a brief interlude recalls the opening material to connect the choir stanza to the powerful final stanza. Your congregation and choir will enjoy this centuries-strong text and tune with renewed vigor.
